As a developer, I know good software when I see it, and as an avid iPhone fan, I download it as fast as I can. There are more than 750,000 apps in the Apple iTunes Store, and quite a few of them cost you nothing. Agreed, a few of them are not worth the time it takes you to download them, but there are thousands of top-quality iPhone apps that you can get for free.
2012 has been a wonderful year for people like me who are always on the lookout for free apps. When you download a free app and it turns out to be amazing, you feel the warm glow of satisfaction in your heart. Start 2013 by downloading some of the most useful and entertaining apps on the Apple iTunes Store.
Of all the free apps that came out this year, the ones listed below are, in my opinion, the pick of the bunch. While choosing the best apps, I’ve avoided including apps from the same category. For instance, mSecure and LastPass provide decent password protection and management services, but I have included the best one I could find: 1Password.
Google Maps for iOS 6
If you have the latest iPhone, or if you have updated to iOS 6, I guess you already have this app in your mobile. The Google Maps app has always been one of the most trustworthy and easy-to-use map apps in the market. When the Apple Maps app bombed, this free app made life easier for iPhone users. The latest version of Google Maps benefits from the competition with Apple Maps app, and it offers a better experience than any other map app on any other mobile device.
More likely than not, you have dozens of accounts that are protected by passwords. Then, there are credit card numbers, bank account details and secure notes that you need to store and remember. If you are anything like me, you set simple passwords that you can easily remember, or use the same password for all the sites. You don’t need me to tell you that this makes your accounts and information highly insecure. 1Password will allow you to save all the passwords and other information and secure it with 256-bit military grade AES encryption. All you need to do is remember one master password.
Anyone who likes to run, jog, walk or cycle, and anyone who likesusing technology to chart routes and track calories, will fall in love with RunKeeper. This app has been around for a long time. But the developers of this app have done something amazing: they included all the RunKeeper Pro features in the free version. So, you can practically get the Pro version for nothing!
Adobe Photoshop Express
Adobe Photoshop is heavy software and it is, arguably, the best photo editing software around. Most of us have transferred images from mobiles to computer to edit them using this software. The express version of Adobe Photoshop for mobiles will let you ‘ auto-correct’ your photos with a single tap, edit photos, use color filters, and enhance your photos in dozens of different ways. For a free app, it sure packs a solid punch.
Have you ever hard a snatch of music that you liked but were unable to identify? Have you wished with all your heart that you could, in some way, find out what song it was? If you have, Shazam is the answer to your prayers. All you need to do is bring your mobile close to the sound of music, and the app will tell you what song it is! Even if you don’t feel that need for such an app, using the technology is good fun.
If you don’t already have these apps on your iPhone, you must consider downloading them. Each of them will add value to your mobile without affecting the contents of your wallet.
