With the ever-increasing magic of technology, almost anywhere can feel like home. On the local bus to work? Play a game on your smartphone. Heading to grandma and grandpa’s for the holidays? Pop on one of the kids’ favorite films or last night’s episode of your favorite show. Catching some rays poolside? Don’t forget your Windows 8 tablet and mp3 player.
We all know of these ubiquitous accessories that let us create our own entertainment havens, regardless of locale. But along with these well-known wonders, there are a few truly amazing gadgets that have been flying just below the radar. It just so happens that they are perfect for those on the go.
1. Universal Power Adaptor Kit
There is no doubt we certainly need all those accessories we lug around, so it would be nice if each didn’t require their own clunky charger taking up valuable space in suitcases and carry-ons.
Universal adaptor kits address this need, and then some, by saving outlet space and baggage space. Simply plug in the appropriate charger (most include air, auto or home adaptors), find the necessary device tip and juice up your computer, phone and tablet- simultaneously.
Rather than offering up an additional arm and leg for the hotel’s overpriced wi-fi access fee, or siphoning from the aforementioned coffee shop, plug in this device.
It functions as a wireless base station, so you can settle in with work, movies, or a video chat to home safely on your own wireless network.
3. Pocket Charger
For those times spent a bit further away from the nearest outlet, try one of the many varieties of pocket chargers.
Often no bigger than your travel toothbrush, these little gadgets hold just enough zing to energize half a notebook battery or two mobiles so you can share with a needy neighbor.
4. Digital Camera
Nothing will ever re-create the experience of being there, but digital cameras do come pretty close.
Most options are now small enough to fit in a small purse or breast pocket and, thus, ensure that you won’t miss a moment of the action to share with those at home.Check a reputable electronics retailer, such as Newegg, for options and pricing.
5. Clear Card
Perhaps the most spectacular union of technology and travel is the Clear Card. Designed for, assumedly, the most frequent of travelers, this card is made to flash flyers forward.
Card owners apply online and then present two forms of I.D. and their biometric data in person at a local enrollment center. Once approved, they simply show their card and move through security, skipping all those schmucks patiently waiting their turn. Unfortunately, the technology is not yet available at all airports, but for those who find themselves in the air or in line more often than not, the card is certainly worth the investment.
Whether saving time, saving space or simply saving peace of mind, each of these items are certainly deserving of a spot in your travel arsenal.
